Me now Sept 22, 2016
So it has been awhile since I posted anything and much has happened. Some bad stuff and lots of good stuff. Suffice it to say it is time to start my life style changes again. The picture above is me now so going to start workouts, eating better and enjoying life and will be posting the changes. There will be changes with some being dramatic and some not so dramatic, but all will be in a positive direction. Sometimes we get side tracked in life and the true test of how we take care of ourselves is how we get back in the flow.
I know it is not going to be easy, but I want to be healthy and be around for a few more years so got to make changes. The biggest change will be getting active again. Spent too much time on couch eating ice cream and doughnuts so bye bye Butter Pecan and chocolate covered doughnuts and hello Spinach salad and apples.
Also have to bid good bye to naps on the couch after work and hello to gym with a good balance of weight lifting and stretching. Going to start slow and build up. Hoping to benefit my golf game and get rid of some pains as well.
I will keep you posted and writing about the changes will keep me going in the right direction too. If you are reading this and feel like life has stopped for you I want to challenge you to get active even if it is only just for 30 minutes or so of walking. Get out enjoy the sunset and walk.
Stay tuned.... :)

Update on my progress to a healthier me

Well, today I did it! I completed my first of many five mile jogs and I feel great. Two months ago I could not complete one mile without stopping six times and then could not walk for three days. Now I am doing five miles and looking forward to the next day.
The trick to exercise is sticking to it and doing it progressively. I worked on moving up to two miles by the end of May, three by the end of June and four by the end of July. I did this each day by just going a little farther each day. It did not have to be a big difference, but I did make sure that there was a positive difference. Taking the little steps does pay off in the end.
Now I am adjusting my schedule because I have exceeded my July goal. I am now shooting for six miles by the end of July and eight by the end of August. While I am doing all of this jogging I am also doing some weight training, stretching and walking. Mix up your activities to keep yourself motivated.
Stay motivated, set your goals and enjoy your success and you will get healthy.

Tracking my progress to a healthier me

Today I completed 5 days in a row jogging 4 miles. Two months ago I could barely complete 1 mile. I created a plan to reach two miles by the end of May, three by the end of June and four by the end of July. I am now ahead of schedule.
During this time I have learned to take pleasure in the little accomplishments. I am feeling and looking better now. I have also stopped drinking all soft drinks especially soda and this was not easy to do because I love Mountain Dew, but my health is more important than a drink. I am also limiting the amount of fat intake and even considering the vegan method because several people I know are doing this and they love it.
Each day I look forward to my exercise sessions and how I feel afterward. You need to enjoy what you do for exercise so you will keep doing it, so pick an activity that you know you will always feel like doing. You will need to add some different activities as you work on your goals and to keep challenging the body, but having at least your go to activity will keep you motivated on a path of getting healthy.
This is not meant as an advertisement, but I am taking several of the Nature Sunshine supplements. I am doing this because I have cut back on some of my food intakes and do not want to get into a vitamin deficiency. You need to consult with you physician before beginning the exercise and on what supplements you may need.
Keep your focus, set your goals and enjoy the little accomplishments.
More to come and will be posting some before and after pictures in the next couple of months.

Change your focus to feel better

On June 1st this year I set a goal to feel better. I know that we all want to set the goal to lose weight, but I had done that so many times and failed each time. This time I decided to focus on feeling better and having a better attitude by taking small steps and building to bigger steps.
I started in June by walking and jogging a mile each day for the first two weeks. I initially walked the first third of the mile, jogged the second third and walked and jogged the last third. After two weeks I was able to jog the full mile plus one third. At the end of June I was up to jogging two miles per day.
On July 1st I completed my first 3 mile jog and I have not done that for 12 years. I am planning to work up to 4 miles per day by the end of July and 5 miles per day by the end of August.
During this time I have noticed a change in how I feel without worrying about losing weight; however I have lost 30 pounds since June 1st and dropped two pant sizes. Now my workout plan could be aggressive for some of you so you need to consult with a doctor before beginning any workout program.
You will need to make some diet changes like drinking more water and adding fresh vegetables to your diet.
The key to any workout plan is to set a true goal that will improve your life. Losing weight is a great goal and will help to improve your life, but you have to feel better about yourself so that you can continue to motivate yourself to workout. If you focus on weight loss and you do not see immediate results, then you may be tempted to give up.
Pick a goal and get started. Put the goal in writing and track your progress each day toward that goal.
    Enjoy yourself and get healthy.
